Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana

Profile:
Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana. He was sworn in for a second term as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana on January 7, 2025, after being re-elected. A long-serving member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he represented the Nadowli West Constituency in the Upper West Region in several parliaments.

Early Life and Education:

• Born on September 24, 1957, in Sombo, Upper West Region, to peasant farmers.

• Attended Wa Secondary School and Tamale Secondary School.

• Earned a Bachelor of Arts in Law and English from the University of Ghana.

Political Career:

• Minister for Health (2012–2014)

• Minister for Water Resources, Works, and Housing (2010–2012)

• Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament (January 2017 – January 2021)

Speaker of Parliament:

• Elected Speaker of the 8th Parliament in January 2021.

• Re-elected Speaker of the 9th Parliament in January 2025.
