Climate Communications and Local Governance (CCLG-Africa) is a dynamic network of media professionals, environmental experts, and local governance practitioners focused on addressing climate change and environmental challenges in Africa. The organization is dedicated to advocacy, education, capacity building, and sharing information on climate change at the local level to empower communities and individuals to take action.
At CCLG-Africa, we recognize that climate change is driven by human activities that negatively impact the environment, leading to gradual but significant changes in local climates. These activities largely occur at the community level, where businesses and livelihoods thrive. Consequently, our work emphasizes the need for grassroots strategies to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change while fostering sustainable practices.
We believe that awareness and practical solutions must reach the local level, where the direct impacts of climate change are felt. Through tailored programs and activities, we aim to empower communities to address climate challenges effectively while promoting sustainable development.
Our History
CCLG-Africa was founded in December 2019 and officially incorporated under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) in January 2023, following the Second African Climate Change Summit. The summit was organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Climate Chance Association-France, and the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG). This summit highlighted critical gaps in climate change communication, awareness, and education at the local level in Africa. To address this, a network of communicators and experts was formed to spread knowledge, build capacity, and drive grassroots action on climate and environmental issues. This marked the birth of CCLG-Africa.
